Asphalt Shingles

Asphalt shingles are still the most common roofing material we install, and for most homes they're the right call. They typically carry a 15 to 30-year warranty, they're straightforward to repair in sections, and they perform well in most weather. Their biggest weakness is exposure to repeated freeze-thaw cycles and standing moisture, which can wear them down faster over time.

Metal Roofing

Metal roofing takes more work to install, but it lasts considerably longer, often 40 to 70 years with proper installation, and warranties frequently run 30 to 50 years. It sheds snow and rain well, handles temperature swings better than asphalt, and needs very little maintenance once it's on. The main risk is denting from large hail or falling branches, though that's uncommon outside of severe storms.

Which Makes Sense for Your Roof?

If you're planning to stay in your home for decades and want a roof you can mostly ignore, metal is the stronger long-term option. If you're looking for a reliable, well-understood roofing system, asphalt shingles are a solid, proven choice, which is why they're still what most homes in our area have. Roof pitch, HOA rules, and your home's structure can also affect which option makes sense.
